In short: Global payments company Stripe says its stablecoin card programmes will reach more than 100 countries by the end of 2026. These cards let people spend stablecoins, digital tokens pegged to a currency like the US dollar, anywhere normal cards are accepted.

Why it matters

Spending with stablecoins is growing fast. About $1.2 billion was spent through stablecoin cards in a single recent month, roughly three times a year earlier, according to data firm Paymentscan. Stripe’s card customers include crypto exchange Kraken and spend-management company Ramp. Henri Stern, co-founder of Privy, which Stripe bought in 2025, now leads Stripe’s stablecoin and crypto work.

What it means for India

Stripe has not said which countries will be included. Stablecoins are not legal tender in India, and gains from crypto assets are taxed at a flat 30% with 1% TDS on transfers. Indian users should not expect these cards soon.
