Is the Axis Bank Magnus worth it?

Magnus makes sense only for big spenders. Its real value starts above ₹1.5 lakh a month, where the earn rate almost triples, and you need ₹25 lakh a year to get the ₹12,500 + GST fee waived.

What a year could look like

₹2 lakh a month₹75,000 a month
Yearly spend₹24 lakh₹9 lakh
EDGE points earned2,13,00054,000
Worth if moved to airline and hotel partners (about ₹0.40 a point)₹85,200₹21,600
Worth as cashback or vouchers (about ₹0.20 a point)₹42,600₹10,800
Annual fee₹14,750₹14,750
Value after fees (points moved to partners)About ₹70,450About ₹6,850

Our example assumes every spend earns points: 12 per ₹200 up to ₹1.5 lakh a month and 35 per ₹200 above it. Utilities, insurance, fuel, wallet loads, gold and some other categories earn nothing. ₹24 lakh a year is just short of the ₹25 lakh waiver. The example leaves out the first-year welcome benefit and lounges.

How to get the most from it

  • Put your big spends on Magnus so you cross ₹1.5 lakh in a month, where the earn rate rises to 35 points per ₹200.
  • Move points to airline and hotel partners at 5:2, keeping the yearly limits for each partner group in mind.
  • Spend ₹50,000 every 3 months to keep unlimited domestic lounge access.
  • Book travel on Axis Travel EDGE for 60 points per ₹200, on up to ₹2 lakh a month.

Skip it if

  • You spend less than ₹1 lakh a month. HDFC Regalia Gold or Axis Bank Horizon cost far less.
  • You would take points as cashback. At ₹0.20 a point, the fee often wipes out the gain.

Yes, unlimited international via Priority Pass, and unlimited domestic if you spend ₹50,000 in the previous 3 months.

How much do I need to spend for Axis Magnus to be worth it?

Roughly ₹1 lakh a month or more, if you move points to partners. In our examples, ₹75,000 a month leaves about ₹6,850 a year after the fee, and ₹2 lakh a month leaves about ₹70,000.

How do I get the Axis Magnus annual fee waived?

Spend ₹25 lakh in a card year and the next year’s ₹12,500 + GST fee is waived.
