Is the HSBC TravelOne worth it?

TravelOne is worth its ₹4,999 + GST fee for people who move their points to airline and hotel programmes. Used as statement credit, a point is worth only about ₹0.25, and the fee becomes hard to earn back.

Example: ₹60,000 a month (₹7.2 lakh a year)

Where you spendPoints
₹40,000 of hotels on HSBC Travel with Points (24 per ₹100)9,600
₹60,000 of flights on airline websites (4 per ₹100)2,400
₹6.2 lakh of other spends (2 per ₹100)12,400
Total points24,400
Worth if moved 1:1 to airline miles (₹0.50 to ₹1 a mile)₹12,200 to ₹24,400
Worth as statement credit (about ₹0.25 a point)₹6,100
Annual fee (not waived below ₹8 lakh)₹5,899

What an airline mile is worth depends on the flight you book; we assume ₹0.50 to ₹1. Utilities, fuel, insurance, rent and wallet loads earn nothing and are not included. The example leaves out the first-year welcome benefit and lounge visits.

How to get the most from it

  • Book hotels on HSBC Travel with Points for 24 points per ₹100, within the 18,000 points a month limit.
  • Move points 1:1 to partners such as Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer, Accor, Air India, Qatar and British Airways.
  • Spend ₹8 lakh in your card anniversary year to get the next fee waived. Add-on card spends count.
  • The forex markup is 3.5%. HSBC’s zero-markup offer ended on 31 October 2026, so a zero-forex card is now cheaper for spending abroad.

Skip it if

  • You want simple cashback. HSBC Live+ is a better fit.
  • You spend a lot abroad. A 0% forex card such as Scapia saves the 3.5% markup.
