Is the HDFC Regalia Gold worth it?

Regalia Gold pays off for people who spend about ₹40,000 or more a month and use their points on SmartBuy flights and hotels. Below that, the ₹2,500 + GST fee is hard to earn back, and a simpler cashback card usually gives you more.

What a year could look like

₹50,000 a month₹25,000 a month
Yearly spend₹6 lakh₹3 lakh
Base points (5 per ₹200)15,0007,500
Points used on SmartBuy (about ₹0.50 each)₹7,500₹3,750

Annual fee₹0 (waived above ₹4 lakh)₹2,950
Value after feesAbout ₹13,500About ₹800

Our example assumes every spend earns the base rate and points are used on SmartBuy. Taken as statement credit (about ₹0.20 a point), the points are worth less than half as much. It leaves out the first-year welcome benefit and lounge visits.

How to get the most from it

  • Use points on SmartBuy flights and hotels or the Gold catalogue, never as statement credit.
  • Buy from Myntra, Nykaa, Marks and Spencer and Reliance Digital for up to 6.25%, within the 5,000 bonus points a month limit.
  • Spend ₹1.5 lakh in each quarter to collect all four ₹1,500 vouchers.
  • Keep at least ₹60,000 of spend each quarter so your domestic lounge visits stay unlocked.

Skip it if

  • You spend less than ₹25,000 a month. HDFC Millennia or SBI Cashback will usually give you more.
  • You want cash back on your bill rather than points to redeem.

Does Regalia Gold give free lounge access?

Yes: 6 international visits a year, and 12 domestic visits a year if you spend ₹60,000 in the previous quarter.

How is the annual fee waived?

Spend ₹4 lakh in your card year and the next year’s fee is waived.

Is HDFC Regalia Gold worth it if I spend ₹25,000 a month?

Only just. At ₹3 lakh a year you miss the quarterly vouchers and the ₹4 lakh fee waiver, so you keep only about ₹800 a year after the fee, even with points used on SmartBuy.

HDFC Regalia Gold or HDFC Millennia?
