What moved the market

  • Crude oil: Brent stayed high, around $114 to $117 a barrel during the day, after attacks involving Yemen’s Houthi group renewed supply worries. India imports most of its oil, so costly crude hurts.
  • Gainers: Dr Reddy’s rose about 6.6%. Kotak Mahindra Bank gained after its results; Bharti Airtel and Reliance Industries also added to the Nifty.
  • Losers: HDFC Bank, Bajaj Finance and Shriram Finance dragged. Shriram fell after cutting its loan growth target, read our Kotak and Shriram results story.
  • Rupee: It fell for a third day on a firm dollar and high oil prices.

What to watch this week

  • Jio Platforms IPO: Issue price fixed at ₹1,119 a share. Allotment was expected to be finalised on Monday, with refunds on Tuesday and listing on Wednesday, 28 October. Track it on our IPO tracker.
  • US Fed decision on 28 October (late night India time). See what the Fed and US midterms mean for you.
  • Crude oil and the rupee, which have driven most big moves this month.
