In short: Sarvam AI, which builds AI models for Indian languages, is reportedly in talks to raise $250–300 million at a valuation of about $3 billion. That would double its value in about four months and make it India’s highest-valued AI startup. The talks are not final, so the amount and valuation could change.
How fast it has grown
| When | What happened | Valuation |
|---|---|---|
| June 2026 | $234 million first close of its Series B, led by HCLTech ($150 million), with Bessemer, Khosla Ventures and Peak XV | $1.5 billion |
| October 2026 | Reported talks for a new $250–300 million round | About $3 billion |
Why it matters for finance
Banks, insurers and lenders are among Sarvam’s main customers, including LIC, SBI Life, IDFC FIRST Bank, Tata Capital and CRED. Its models handle tasks like reading insurance forms, transcribing customer calls in Indian languages and running chat assistants. The Maharashtra government has also approved its Indus AI workspace for drafting and translating official documents, with data kept in India.
Sarvam is one of the companies building India’s own large language models. Its 105-billion-parameter model and a lighter 30-billion version are aimed at Indian languages and local use, an area global AI companies cover less well.
The bigger picture
The talks come as global investors grow more cautious about AI valuations, with AI stocks losing over $1 trillion in a week this month. A higher round for Sarvam would show continued investor appetite for AI built for India.
