In short: Five big card issuers, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, SBI Card, Axis Bank and Kotak Mahindra Bank, have festive offers live on shopping, electronics and travel sites. Headline discounts are mostly 10% to 15%, but each comes with a cap, a minimum spend and often an EMI condition. Business Standard listed the offers on 26 October, as advertised on 24 October.

What it means for you

  • Look at the cap, not the percentage. 10% off a ₹60,000 phone is ₹6,000 only if the cap allows it. Axis’s Amazon cap is ₹1,250 on regular spends.
  • Many offers need EMI. An EMI can carry interest, a processing fee and GST on that fee. Read our guide on hidden costs of no-cost EMI first.
  • Compare the final price. A bigger discount on a higher sale price may still cost more than another site.
  • Pay the full bill on time. Card interest can be 3% to 4% a month, which wipes out any festive saving.
