In short: Anthropic, the US company behind the Claude AI assistant, publicly filed its IPO document (called an S-1) with the US Securities and Exchange Commission on 26 October 2026. It plans to list on the Nasdaq under the ticker ANT. Revenue was $16.29 billion in the six months to June 2026, up from $1.16 billion a year earlier. The price range and number of shares have not been set yet.

The key numbers from the filing

ItemFigure
Revenue, Jan-Jun 2026$16.29 billion (vs $1.16 billion a year earlier)
Revenue, full year 2025$4.59 billion (2024: $386 million)
Net loss, Jan-Jun 2026$80.7 billion, of which about $72.4 billion is an accounting charge on convertible notes
Operating loss, Jan-Jun 2026$693 million
Spending on AI infrastructure, Jan-Jun 2026$9 billion (vs $7.3 billion in all of 2025)
Cash and equivalents (30 June)$112.4 billion, plus $19.3 billion short-term investments
Cloud computing commitmentsOver $430 billion, up to $637 billion including cancellable deals
Customers paying $1 million+ a yearMore than 1,900 (about 250 paying $10 million+)
Last private valuation$965 billion (May 2026)

The large net loss is mostly an accounting entry: when the company’s valuation rose, the value of certain notes it had issued rose too, and that is recorded as a loss. The smaller operating loss is a better guide to day-to-day business, Yahoo Finance reported.

Who controls the company

  • Anthropic is a public benefit corporation, which must weigh its public mission alongside profits.
  • A Long-Term Benefit Trust of five trustees with no financial stake will elect a majority of the board through a special class of shares.
  • A single Class F share held by an entity of the seven co-founders will carry 50.1% of votes on most matters, so public shareholders (Class A, one vote per share) will have limited say. The filing itself warns about this.
  • Amazon and Google are major investors and cloud partners. Google holds about 14%, capped at 15%, according to reports cited by Ascendants.

Timing and size

Bloomberg reported that marketing to investors could start the week of 9 November, with trading before 26 November; the Wall Street Journal pointed to the week of 16 November. The Wall Street Journal reported a raise of $100 billion or more, and reports put the hoped-for valuation at $1.5 trillion to $2 trillion. None of this is confirmed by the company. Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley lead 24 underwriters.

Risks the filing lists

  • About one-fifth of revenue came from two customers.
  • Huge locked-in computing contracts, much of them with its own investors.
  • A US export control directive forced it to suspend foreign nationals’ access to some models, and it is suing the US Department of Defense over a “supply chain threat” designation.
  • Its AI models could cause real-world harm, which could expose it to damages.

What it means for Indian investors

  • Anthropic will list in the US, not in India. Indian residents can buy only after listing, through a US broker or an Indian app that offers US stocks, within the RBI’s Liberalised Remittance Scheme limit of $2,50,000 a year. Bank charges, currency costs and tax collected at source (TCS) on large remittances can apply.
  • Be wary of “pre-IPO” share offers. Anthropic reportedly warned in May that trades through some secondary platforms would not be valid.
  • A popular IPO is not a guaranteed gain. Valuations this large leave little room for error. Track listings on our IPO tracker and AI company deals on our AI funding tracker.
