In short: Gold and silver have become cheaper ahead of the festive season. In Mumbai, 24-carat gold is ₹1,42,580 per 10 grams on 25 October, down about ₹1,790 from 23 October. Silver is ₹2,20,000 a kilo, down ₹4,900. Dhanteras, the most popular day to buy gold, falls on Friday, 6 November.

In Delhi, 24-carat gold is ₹1,42,730 and 22-carat ₹1,30,850 per 10 grams; 18-carat is ₹1,07,090. These are indicative retail rates before GST and making charges.
Why prices are falling
- Oil and inflation: crude oil has climbed above $114 a barrel, raising fears that inflation will stay high.
- Interest rates: that means the US Federal Reserve may keep rates high for longer. Gold pays no interest, so it looks less attractive when rates are high. The Fed meets on 27–28 October.
- Global prices: international gold has slipped to around $4,010 an ounce.
What to watch next
- US Fed meeting (27–28 October): any hint of higher or longer-lasting US rates could push gold lower; a softer tone could lift it.
- Oil prices: a further rise in crude would add to inflation worries.
