In short: IDFC FIRST Bank says all its credit cards, existing and new, now carry zero forex markup on international spends. There is no need to apply, upgrade or meet a spending target, and rewards or cashback are still earned as per each card.
Why it matters
Most credit cards add a forex markup of about 3.5% plus GST on foreign-currency spends. By the bank’s own example, that is about ₹4,130 extra on a ₹1 lakh international bill, which IDFC FIRST cardholders now avoid.
Good to know
The announcement does not cover cash withdrawals abroad or dynamic currency conversion. When paying abroad, choose to pay in the local currency rather than rupees, as paying in rupees can add conversion charges.
